Monthly Parent- School Communication

Dear Barnard Families,

It was a pleasure seeing everyone during our Parent/Teacher conferences on October 10th. We are happy to report that our students and staff have been following the CDC and DC Health guidelines regarding COVID -19 as much as is possible. As a result, we have had zero positive cases, for the past two weeks of random testing of students across grade levels! Thank you for partnering with us as we try to keep our students, staff, and families safe.

We had a fantastic celebration of Hispanic Heritage this week at BES. Please see the photos on our Instagram and Twitter pages (BarnardDCPS). The Chancellor and Mayor announced that all DCPS schools will receive additional staff to support our Covid responses and procedures and a full-time substitute. Awesome News!

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. BES staff & students will support the cause in solidarity (stopping bullying and cyber bullying on Wednesday, October 20th) Please wear your Blue t-shirts in solidarity! We all want to use our voices to send a message that this is the month that bullying prevention is heard around the world.  #StompOutBullying

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Let’s show our Support and in Solidarity by wearing PINK ON Friday, October 28,2021.

Principal’s Appreciation Month!!:.  October is Principal’s Appreciation Month! A HUGE SHOUT OUT to Principal Grace Reid for her Leadership.  We want to take a moment to recognize your hard work during National Principal’s Month. Please take a moment to look back at the video we made for Dr. Reid last school year! It’s still as moving as ever.

Celebrating Perfect Attendance We are observing Attendance Awareness Month by celebrating our students who have perfect attendance in the month of October.  Please share with your students the following: Students who have perfect attendance (on time arrival every day) in the month of October will be invited to a “Popsicle Social” on November 5th, 2021.

DCPS Student Survey: We are excited to announce that the Fall 2021 Panorama Student Survey is here!   Twice a year, we ask students in grades 3 and higher to complete a survey about social-emotional learning for DC Public Schools, the Panorama Student Survey, to help DCPS and school administrators better understand what students think about their school experiences and their social and emotional learning. This fall, the student survey will be open from October 12 to October 29. Schools use survey results to better understand your child’s needs. Part of DCPS’s Multi-Tiered System of Supports initiative (MTSS @ DCPS) is the use of the Panorama Student Success portal, which enables teachers and staff to see students' Panorama results side-by-side with academic, attendance, and behavioral data. Using Panorama Student Success, teachers can see your child’s average scores on different SEL topics on the survey. The platform is secure and can be accessed only by teachers or staff at a student’s school.

If you have any questions regarding the Panorama Student Survey and the Panorama Student Success platform or if you want to see the survey questions students will receive, please visit https://dcps.dc.gov/surveys.
